Project Description
This project was a 376,338 sf, 467-suite addition to an existing 944,220 sf facility. It included two open-air courtyards and an atrium winter garden. Part of the existing hospital was demolished to make way for the new expansion. The existing mechanical/electrical rooms were upgraded to accommodate the addition, which required extensive coordination of utility shutdowns while maintaining services to the existing facilities. The exterior of the building combines brick and aluminum in a punch-window style covering two floors in some locations, with buff-coloured precast sills and headers. The interior finishes include an array of material such as natural wood, linoleum, ceramic marble, terrazzo and architectural concrete. The building also features a seven-storey atrium space enclosed with architectural concrete, steel and an aluminum skylight.
